Gallivanter Terms of Service
These Terms of Service (the "Terms") govern your use of the Gallivanter mobile app (the "App", the "Service"). The Service is provided by Zeynep Nazlı Çakır, an individual ("we"); contact: support@gallivanter.net. When you create your profile you confirm that you accept these Terms; acceptance is required to use the Service. How your personal data is processed is explained in the Privacy Policy (privacy-policy.md).
1. The Service
Gallivanter offers event discovery, messaging, the ability to like, comment on and RSVP to events, and community events and groups that users add themselves. Events, groups and photos are created by users, including the community events they add themselves (Section 7).
The Service is offered to users in Türkiye, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Poland, Russia and Ukraine, and is intended for people aged 16 and over. It is not directed at people elsewhere.
The Service is free of charge; there are no in-app purchases, subscriptions or ads. If a paid feature is ever offered, it will be subject to separate terms shown before purchase, and the free features will not be made conditional on payment.
2. Account
- You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service. When you create your profile you confirm that you are 16 or older and accept these Terms; the time of that confirmation and acceptance and the accepted version are recorded. People under 16 may not use the Service, even with the consent of a parent or guardian; accounts found to have been opened with a false declaration are closed and their data deleted. When you create your profile you also choose your age band (16-17 or 18+); only the band is stored, never a date of birth, and you cannot change it yourself. 16-17 accounts are private and have limited messaging and creation features: they cannot be made public, an adult cannot send messages to them until they accept a message request (they can decline or block at any time), and they can create friends-only events, or events inside their own approval or secret group that only that group's members can see, but not public events. An adult can find a 16-17 account only by searching for its name or username, and the search shows just a name, username and picture. Accounts aged 16-17 can create groups, but only groups that need approval to join or are secret (invite only); they cannot create or switch to a public (open to everyone) group.
- You open your account with an email address and password, or with your Google account (Android and iOS) or Apple ID (iOS). When you sign in with Google or Apple, their own terms also apply and the security of that account is your responsibility. You must give accurate information, keep your password secret and tell us immediately if you notice unauthorized use of your account. You are responsible for activity carried out on your account by you or with your permission. Your account is personal; it may not be transferred, sold or used by anyone else.
- Usernames are 3-20 characters (lowercase letters, digits,
_,.). Misleading or impersonating names and reserved names such as "admin", "support" and "gallivanter" are not allowed; we may ask you to change, or change, a username that breaks this rule. The verification badge is a mark given automatically based on follower count or manually by us; it is not an identity or safety check. - You can delete your account at any time in Settings > Delete account (details: Privacy Policy, Section 9).
3. Acceptable use
The Community Guidelines (community-guidelines.md) are an integral part of these Terms. In short, you must not:
- Post illegal content or content containing hate speech, harassment, threats, incitement to violence or discrimination.
- Post child sexual abuse material, non-consensual nudity or intimate images, or extremely violent content; such content is removed immediately, the account is closed and it is reported to the competent authorities.
- Share other people's personal information (address, phone, location, ID or financial details) without their permission, or impersonate others.
- Spam, scam, post misleading events, send unsolicited commercial messages, use automated accounts or bots, or try to bypass rate limits.
- Upload content that infringes others' copyright or other rights. Upload only photos you have the right to upload.
- Attempt to disrupt the Service, its security or other users (unauthorized access, reverse engineering, malware, automated scraping).
- Use the App to stalk, harass or harm someone in real life.
We may remove content that breaks these rules, restrict access to features, temporarily suspend or close accounts (Section 5 and Community Guidelines, Section 6).
4. Your content
You own your content (comments, messages, community events, groups, photos, profile information) and you are responsible for it. You confirm that you have the rights needed to share it and to grant the license below, and that it does not break the law or the rights of others. For content you share, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, non-transferable, royalty-free license limited to the time the content remains on the Service, solely to run the Service (hosting, backup, resizing, re-encoding, displaying it and delivering it to other users according to your visibility settings). When you delete content, this license ends at the end of the retention periods in the Privacy Policy. We do not use your content for advertising, do not sell it and do not use it to train artificial intelligence models.
You accept that, even if you use a private account, photo files sit in storage that anyone who knows the address can open, and that the community events you add (with your profile as the organizer) are public (Privacy Policy, Section 3).
5. Reporting, moderation and blocking
- You can report any message, community event, group, event comment or user in the App, and block users. A person you block cannot see your content or contact you.
- We review reports: the first review happens within 72 hours of the report at the latest, and clearly illegal content or content that endangers someone's safety is removed as soon as possible. After review we may remove the content, dismiss the report or suspend the violating account.
- Extra safeguard for community events and groups: an event or group reported by 3 different people is hidden automatically, without waiting for review.
- Group privacy: a group owner or admin can make a group open, approval-based or secret. Secret groups, their member lists and their events are visible only to members and to people who received an invitation; join requests and invitations are visible to the group managers and the person concerned. Do not share what you learn in a secret group outside it without the members' consent.
- Notice of illegal content. If you think content is illegal, use Report in the App or write to support@gallivanter.net and tell us (a) why you think it is illegal, (b) where it is (a link, the event, group or comment, or the username), (c) your name and email address (not needed for reports about child sexual abuse) and (d) that you believe the information is accurate and complete. We confirm receipt where you give an email address, decide in a timely, careful and objective way, and tell you our decision and how to challenge it.
- Reasons for our decisions. When we remove or restrict content, or suspend or close an account, because it is illegal or breaks these Terms, we tell the person concerned what we did, the facts and reasons behind it, whether automated means were used (only the automatic hiding described above is automated; every other decision is taken by a person), and how to appeal. We may skip this where the law forbids it or where the content is clearly deceptive mass spam.
- Appeals and out-of-court dispute settlement. You can appeal a moderation decision about you, or a decision on a report you made, by writing to support@gallivanter.net within 6 months of the decision; a person who was not involved in the first decision reviews the appeal and we tell you the outcome within 30 days. Users in the EU/EEA may also turn to a certified out-of-court dispute settlement body under the EU Digital Services Act; this does not affect your right to go to court.
- Misuse. After a warning, we may stop handling reports from people who often submit clearly unfounded reports, and may suspend accounts that often post clearly illegal content.
- Contact point. support@gallivanter.net is our single point of contact for users and for authorities, in Turkish or English. We handle notices, appeals and requests by email; no postal address is published, and one is available on request where the law requires it.
- Where required by law or requested by competent authorities, we may share the necessary data with them.
6. Meeting people in real life: safety
The App helps people plan and meet in person. We do not verify users' identities, do not run background checks and do not guarantee that any user is trustworthy; the verification badge is not an identity or safety check either. The decision to attend a meeting and your conduct at it are your responsibility. You can open the safety tips below any time in Settings > Safety tips:
- Meet people you do not know for the first time in a busy, public place.
- Tell someone close to you who you are meeting, where and when.
- Arrange your own transport; do not share your home address, workplace, financial or ID details.
- Leave if you feel uncomfortable, then block and report the person.
- In an emergency call your local emergency number (112 in Türkiye). The App is not an emergency service.
We do not organize meetings or choose participants; the users who create and attend an event are responsible for their own decisions.
7. Event information; community events
Event, venue, date, price and ticket information is added by the users who create community events. We do not guarantee its accuracy, timeliness or availability; events may be cancelled or postponed and information may be wrong. Ticket purchases and payments happen on the seller's site under its terms; we are not a party to them. User-created events and groups are the responsibility of the users who add them.
Community events. You can add a real event that you organize or want to announce. By adding an event:
- You are responsible for the information (title, description, category, date and time, venue, cover photo, ticket link) being accurate and up to date and for having the right to announce the event. If the event is cancelled or changes, you must update or delete it.
- The event is shown in the public event lists with your profile as the organizer.
- A ticket link can only be an https link to a ticket sales site accepted by the App. Ticket sales, payment, refunds and the holding of the event are between that site and the organizer; we are not a party to them and are not responsible for the content of linked sites.
- To prevent abuse a daily limit applies (lower for new accounts) and a second event with the same name at the same venue on the same day cannot be added. We may change these limits.
- We may hide or remove fake or misleading events or events that break the Community Guidelines and apply the measures in Section 5. Licenses of the open-source components in the App are listed in Settings > About > Open source licenses.
8. Intellectual property
The rights in the App's design, software, name and logo belong to Zeynep Nazlı Çakır; they may not be copied, reproduced or used commercially without written permission. Third-party content and open-source components are subject to their own licenses. If you believe content in the App infringes your copyright, write to support@gallivanter.net identifying the work you believe is infringed, the content concerned and your contact details; we review the notice under Section 5 and remove the content where appropriate. A copyright notice should identify the work, the content concerned and where it is, your contact details, a statement that you act in good faith and that the information is accurate, and that you are the rights holder or authorized to act for them. We tell the person who posted the content, who may respond to us; if we conclude that content was removed by mistake we restore it. Accounts that repeatedly infringe copyright are closed. Knowingly false notices may make the sender liable.
9. Third-party services
The Service relies on or links to third-party services such as Supabase (authentication, database, storage), Google and Apple (optional sign-in methods), Railway (server hosting and our own translation server), Expo with Google Firebase Cloud Messaging and the Apple Push Notification service (push notifications), Sentry (crash reports), PostHog (usage statistics, only with your consent), Apple MapKit, Apple/Google Maps and the ticket sales sites linked from community events. Their own terms and privacy policies apply. Unless we are at fault, we are not responsible for outages or content of third-party services. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
10. Disclaimer and limitation of liability
The Service is free and provided "as is" and "as available"; we do not guarantee that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or fit for every need. We may change or discontinue the Service with prior notice.
To the extent permitted by applicable law:
- We are not liable for damage arising from interactions and meetings between users, from users' content and from event information added by users, unless the damage results from our own fault.
- We are not liable for indirect damage, lost profit or unforeseeable damage; our liability is limited to direct and foreseeable damage caused by our fault.
- These limitations do not apply to intent or gross negligence, death or personal injury, liability under data protection law, or cases where consumer law does not allow liability to be limited.
If you break these Terms or the law with your content or conduct and a third party makes a claim against us because of it, you are responsible, to the extent permitted by law and where it is your fault, for the resulting damage, including reasonable legal costs. This does not reduce any right you have under mandatory consumer law.
11. Termination
You can end the contract at any time by deleting your account. We may suspend or close your account if you breach these Terms or the Community Guidelines, where required by law, or if we discontinue the Service entirely. Suspensions and closures are explained and can be appealed as described in Section 5. Except for serious violations, we give notice of a closure, with reasons, in advance where possible; if we discontinue the Service we announce it in the App at least 30 days in advance. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (4, 7, 10 and 12) remain in force.
12. Governing law, disputes and general provisions
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Türkiye. The courts and enforcement offices of Istanbul (Istanbul Courts and Enforcement Offices) have jurisdiction, subject to the mandatory rules below. This choice does not take away users' rights under mandatory consumer and data-protection law: as a consumer you may apply, within the statutory monetary limits, to the Consumer Arbitration Committee or the consumer court where you live. Users living in the EU/EEA, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and elsewhere keep the protection of the mandatory consumer-protection rules of their country of residence and their rights under data protection law. Before starting a formal proceeding, please write to support@gallivanter.net so that we can try to solve the problem; we reply within 30 days.
General provisions. These Terms, the Community Guidelines and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service. If a provision is found invalid or unenforceable, the rest remains in force and the provision is replaced by a valid one that comes closest to its purpose. Not enforcing a right right away does not waive it. You may not transfer your rights or duties under these Terms to anyone else; we may transfer ours to a successor of the Service, and if we do we tell you in the App and you can delete your account. We send notices to you in the App or at your account email address. These Terms are written in Turkish and English; if they differ, the Turkish text prevails in Türkiye.
13. Changes and contact
We may update these Terms. We announce material changes in the App at least 15 days before they take effect, and for substantial changes the App asks for your acceptance again; if you do not accept the new terms you can delete your account. Changes required by law or for security reasons may take effect sooner. The current version is at https://gallivanter-production.up.railway.app/legal/terms. For any question: support@gallivanter.net.
14. Changes in this version (1.2, 28 October 2026)
- Accounts aged 16-17 can create groups that need approval to join or are secret (invite only), and can create events inside their own group that only that group's members can see (Section 2).
- An adult can find a 16-17 account only by searching for its name or username; the search shows just a name, username and picture (Section 2).
- These changes affect what 16-17 accounts can do and how they can be found, so you are asked to accept the Terms again.
Earlier version (1.1, 12 October 2026)
- Added sign-in with Google and Apple (Sections 2 and 9).
- Added responsibility, ticket link, limit and moderation rules for community events (Sections 1, 4, 5 and 7).
- Added the countries where the Service is offered (Section 1), a promise about the rights in your content (Section 4), the notice, reasons, appeal and out-of-court dispute settlement process for illegal content, a contact point and misuse rules (Section 5), copyright notice details (Section 8), responsibility for third-party claims caused by your breach (Section 10), suspension and appeals (Section 11), and general provisions and consumer carve-outs for more countries (Section 12).
- These changes govern new, optional features and do not change your existing rights and obligations, so you are not asked to accept the terms again.
