Deleting Your Gallivanter Account
You can delete your Gallivanter account and data at any time, free of charge. This page explains how to delete an account in the Gallivanter app (publisher: Zeynep Nazlı Çakır) and which data is kept after deletion and for how long.
1. Delete in the app
- Open the Gallivanter app and sign in.
- Go to Settings > My account > Delete my account.
- Read the explanation on the confirmation screen and confirm.
Deletion happens immediately and cannot be undone. You can later create a new account with the same email address or the same Google or Apple account, but your old data does not come back.
If you signed in with Google or Apple, deleting your account does not by itself remove the app connection in your Google or Apple account. You can remove it in the third-party connections of your Google Account security settings or, on iOS, in Settings > [your name] > Sign in with Apple.
2. If you cannot access the app
Email support@gallivanter.net from the email address registered to your account (if you signed in with Google or Apple, from that account's email address; if you used Apple's email relay, from your Apple ID's email address) with the subject "Account deletion request" and include your username. We may ask for additional information to verify your identity. We complete the request within 30 days and let you know.
3. What is deleted immediately
- Your sign-in account (email address and password hash, or the sign-in information received from Google or Apple) and profile (username, display name, bio, profile photo, terms-acceptance records)
- Follow relationships, likes, comments
- The community events you added
- Your memberships in other groups. Groups you own are not deleted: they pass to the longest-standing admin or, if there is none, the longest-standing member. A group with no other members is deleted
- Your event RSVPs, event likes and comments
- Your notifications and notification preferences
- Your blocks, conversation memberships and your devices' push notification tokens
All photo files you uploaded are deleted from storage through the cleanup queue: usually within a few hours, at the latest within 7 days.
4. What is kept and for how long
| Data | What happens | Period |
|---|---|---|
| Messages you wrote | Not deleted, because they are part of the other participants' conversation history; they remain with the sender detached from your account (shown as "Deleted user"). You can ask by email for messages that identify you to be deleted | As long as the conversation exists; when its last member leaves, the conversation is deleted with all its messages |
| Reports you filed | Your identity is removed from them immediately; the report remains as a moderation record | 12 months after the report is resolved |
| Reports about you and moderation decisions | Kept for moderation and abuse prevention; no longer linked to a profile | 12 months after the report is resolved |
| Suspension (sanction) records | Kept so that a sanction cannot be evaded by deleting the account and signing up again | For the duration of the sanction and 12 months after it ends; for indefinite sanctions, as long as the sanction applies |
| Database backups | Deleted data may remain in backups until the backup period ends; backups are used only for disaster recovery | Up to 7 days on the current plan (the period depends on the provider's plan) |
| Crash reports (Sentry) | Reports containing your user ID are deleted at the end of the provider retention period | 90 days |
| Usage statistics (PostHog; only collected if you consented) | Deleted at the end of the provider retention period | 12 months |
| Hosting provider request logs | Not linked to your account; our application log records no IP address and no query parameters | About 7 days |
You can ask at support@gallivanter.net for crash reports and usage statistics to be deleted before these periods end. Where a statutory provision, a request from a competent authority or a pending legal dispute requires longer retention, the data concerned is kept only for that purpose and only as long as necessary.
5. Deleting data without deleting the account
Without deleting your account you can delete individual comments, community events and groups, change your profile, make your account private and switch off notification preferences. A deleted community event is taken down immediately and its cover photo is deleted; its hidden record is kept until your account is deleted so that the daily limit can be applied. To have specific data deleted or to receive a copy of your data, write to support@gallivanter.net; we complete the request within 30 days.
6. Changes in this version (1.1, 12 October 2026)
- Explained deletion for accounts that sign in with Google or Apple and how to remove the app connection (Sections 1 and 2).
- Added community events to the data that is deleted (Sections 3 and 5).
