Gallivanter Responsibilities
This page says in plain words who is responsible for what on Gallivanter. It summarizes and does not replace the Terms of Service (terms-of-service.md), the Privacy Policy (privacy-policy.md) and the Community Guidelines (community-guidelines.md); if there is a conflict, the Terms of Service prevail.
Gallivanter is for people aged 16 and over. It is a free service run by an individual. It helps people find events and groups and meet; it does not organize those meetings.
1. What we are responsible for
- Running the service. We operate the App and the servers, fix problems we find and try to keep the Service available. We cannot promise it will never be interrupted or error-free.
- Moderation. We provide reporting, blocking and review tools and apply the Community Guidelines. We review every report; we make the first review within 72 hours and remove clearly illegal content or content that endangers someone as soon as we can. We explain our decisions and let you appeal (Terms of Service, Section 5). A community event or group reported by 3 different people is hidden automatically until it is reviewed.
- Security. We protect your data with reasonable technical and organizational measures (Privacy Policy, Section 11). No system is completely secure. If a breach affects you, we tell you and, where the law requires, the authorities.
- Data handling. We process personal data as described in the Privacy Policy: only what we need, no ads, no sale of data, deletion when you delete your account, and your rights of access, correction and deletion.
- Reports and legal requests. We act on reports from users and on valid notices and requests from courts and authorities as the law requires. We share the minimum data that a valid legal request requires.
- Honest information. We tell you about material changes to the Service and these texts before they take effect.
2. What you are responsible for (everyone)
- Your account, your sign-in details and what you do with them. Keep your password private.
- Being 16 or older and telling the truth about your age band. Accounts opened with a false declaration are closed.
- Your own content: posts, comments, messages, photos. You must have the right to share them and they must be lawful and follow the Community Guidelines.
- Respecting others: no harassment, hate, threats, spam, impersonation or sharing other people's private information.
- Attending meetings at your own risk. We do not verify identities and do not check who is trustworthy. Decide for yourself whether to go, follow the safety tips in Terms of Service Section 6 (busy public place, tell someone, arrange your own transport) and leave if you feel uncomfortable. In an emergency call your local emergency number (112 in Türkiye); the App is not an emergency service.
- Reporting what breaks the rules, and not misusing reports or blocks.
3. Event organizers
If you add a community event, you are the organizer and you are responsible for it:
- The information must be accurate and current: place, time, price, ticket link and any change or cancellation. Do not mislead people.
- You decide whether the event is safe and lawful: any permits, venue rules, age limits, insurance or other legal duties that apply to holding it are yours. Gallivanter is not the organizer, a party to the event or to any ticket sale.
- Look after the people who come: a safe place, clear information about what to expect, and a response to complaints. Do not collect payments or personal data outside what the law allows.
- Do not use events for spam, scams or illegal activity. Events that break the rules are hidden or removed (Community Guidelines, Section 7).
4. Group owners and admins
Owners and admins run their group and are responsible for how they do it:
- Keep the group's name, description and rules honest, and its content lawful. Choose the right privacy setting (open, approval or secret) and use it fairly.
- Decide on join requests, invitations, removals and bans in good faith and without discrimination. Do not remove or ban people in order to harass them.
- Moderate the group's chat room and announcements: act on rule-breaking, and use the report tool when something needs us. Announcements are for the group's business, not for spam.
- Take extra care with members aged 16-17. Do not ask them for private details, do not push them toward private contact, and report anything that worries you.
- When you hand over or give up a group, hand over the admin role to someone you trust. We may step in when a group breaks the rules, including hiding it or changing who runs it.
5. Limits of our responsibility
We want to be fair about what we can and cannot answer for. To the extent the law allows (Terms of Service, Section 10):
- Users, organizers and group admins are responsible for their own content, events, groups and conduct. We are not responsible for what happens between users or at meetings, or for the accuracy of information that users add, unless the harm comes from our own fault.
- The Service is provided free, "as is" and "as available". We do not promise it is uninterrupted or fits every need, and we are not liable for indirect damage, lost profit or unforeseeable damage.
- Links and services of third parties (ticket sites, maps, sign-in providers) are under their own terms.
- None of this limits liability that cannot be limited under Turkish law or the mandatory law that applies to you: intent and gross negligence, death or personal injury, data protection law, or consumer rights. Nothing here reduces those rights.
6. Reporting and contact
- To report a user, comment, message, event, group or photo, use Report in the three-dot menu. To stop contact, use Block.
- For anything else, including legal notices, privacy requests, copyright notices, appeals or accounts you think belong to a child under 16: support@gallivanter.net. We answer in Turkish or English.
- If someone is in danger, call your local emergency number first.
7. Changes
We may update this page. We announce material changes in the App before they take effect. The current version number and date are at the top of this page.
